Dew point calculator

Estimate dew point from air temperature and relative humidity.

Temperature unit

Estimated dew point 57.4 °F
14.1 °C at 60% humidity

Magnus approximation over water, for ordinary conditions. Temperature range -40 to 140 °F (-40 to 60 °C); relative humidity 1-100%.

What the result includes

Dew point is the temperature at which air would become saturated as it cools without changing its water-vapor content. The estimate does not predict the temperature of a particular surface.

How it is calculated

Formula Dew point (°C) = 243.04 × γ ÷ (17.625 - γ), where γ = ln(RH ÷ 100) + 17.625 × T ÷ (243.04 + T)

T is the air temperature in °C and RH is relative humidity in percent. At 72 °F and 60% relative humidity, the dew point is about 57.4 °F (14.1 °C). At 100% relative humidity, the estimated dew point equals the air temperature.

Questions about this estimate

What is the difference between dew point and relative humidity?

Relative humidity compares the water vapor in the air with the most the air could hold at its current temperature. Dew point is the temperature at which that same water vapor would start to condense.

Why can’t I enter 0% humidity?

The formula uses the logarithm of relative humidity, which is undefined at 0%. Enter 1% or higher.

How exact is the result?

It is an approximation (the Magnus formula over water) intended for ordinary conditions. Treat it as an estimate, and use the tool within the stated temperature and humidity ranges.
